Other Corporealities

“Other Corporealities project” is an Arts & Wellbeing project. It is interested in capturing and revaluing the beauty of those dancing bodies that fall outside of the norm and the mainstream rules, looking beyond what society thinks a dancer “should look like” or how long are we “allowed” to keep on dancing or moving.

About Me

"My name is Coti Cibils, and I am from Argentina. I have been based in Sydney since 2018.

Although I have a variety of skills, and my work is quite interdisciplinary, all my interests revolve around the human body and the body in movement, which guide and connect all my practices together. Besides a Clinical Pilates tacher, I am a dancer and photographer  specialised in dance with 10 years of experience.  I have been teaching pilates and biomechanical movement in physiotherapy and pilates studios, working with a variety of bodies from 9 to 80 years old, from desk workers to pre-professional dancers at Sydney Dance Company. I specialise in Ehler Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility disorders, advocating through Health and Arts for a more accesible Health and a more inclusive enviroment in Arts and life for ALL."

Women's in Dance

The 'Other Corporealities' project, which was developed in 2016, brought together a series of female dancers whose bodies did fall out of the dance norm due to acute scoliosis (with and without surgery), scars, body shape, or size that were not compatible with the dance standards in Argentina at the time. The project consisted of a series of pictures and personal testimonies about their experiences in the dance world, as well as statements on some of the recent news related to the topic that year. All this material was used to create an art installation.

Dancer & Movers over 50

The goal of this ongoing "Other Corporealities" 2024-2025 project is to inspire and encourage everyone aged 50 and older to stay active. It is NEVER TOO LATE to move, dance, or even hang in the air and enjoy the benefits because:

MOVEMENT IS HEALTH

And every moment spent moving is an investment in long-term QUALITY OF LIFE.
